We partner with Calvin Theological Seminary, Grand Rapids, as their Phoenix campus. We are the degree granting site for Calvin’s M.A. degree in Missional Theology. Calvin’s theological tradition and commitment to missional theological education is deeply compatible with MTC’s vision. MTC has crafted the degree and curriculum, and employs its own faculty to deliver the degree.
We have been invited to share the fruits of the curricular work we are doing in Phoenix with pastors, scholars, and students in other parts of the world. But, even more importantly, we desire to learn from them to enrich and correct our own work. And so we have entered into a formal relationship with three groups: the Reformed Church of Hungary, the Center for Church Planting (CTPI), Campinas, Brazil, and the Presbyterian Seminary, Santiago, Chile. We conduct training sessions with key leaders, teach courses, and also engage in mutually enriching dialogues about new directions in theological education.
The Missional Training Center is the fruit of the Surge Network of churches. Surge Network is made up of local pastors and leaders who desire to fellowship with one another and grow as servant-leaders of missional congregations. A missional congregation is one that is centered and rooted in Jesus with an outward focus to the world around them. We believe the role of pastors is to equip and release members of their congregation to participate in God's mission wherever they live, work, and play. MTC operates in collaboration with the Surge Network to equip leaders for the mission of putting Jesus on display.
